The banquet room at the Happ Inn was filled with a diverse crowd of cultivation center and dispensary owners along with cannabis policy experts and enthusiasts. Louis L. Lang, Deputy Majority Leader and State Representative for the 16th District. For more than six years, Representative Lang has been hard at work advocating for ill patients who need medical marijuana to manage their conditions. The Chief Sponsor and Author of the Illinois medical marijuana law also known as the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, Lou works continuously to bring legal medical cannabis one step closer to qualifying patients. ;
Kurt W. Florian, Jr. President and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago. Created in 1946 as a grassroots effort in Illinois to help people with epilepsy, the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago is a not-for-profit organization serving 43 counties, offering counseling, advocacy and educational services to people with epilepsy, their families, and the communities in which they live. The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago leads the fight to stop seizures, find a cure and overcome challenges created by epilepsy;
The Lopez family. Maggie is their nine year old daughter suffering from a severe form of epilepsy (Dravet Syndrome). She was diagnosed at age five months old. Dravet syndrome is a rare and catastrophic form of epilepsy for which there is currently no cure.;
Michael Fine, who has the distinct honor to be married to State Representative Laura Fine, co-sponsor and ardent supporter of the Illinois Medicinal Cannabis legislation. Five years ago Michael’s life was tragically altered while driving to work when his convertible was struck head on by a truck at 50 MPH, the result of which was the traumatic amputation of his left arm at the shoulder. Michael currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Illinois Medical Cannabis Advisory Board and is a passionate advocate for the legalization of medicinal cannabis.;
Jim Champion is a Veterans Rep on the MCAB (Medical Cannabis Advisory Board). He is 100% SCDV (Service Connected Disabled Veteran) and has also suffered for the past 27 years with MS. Jim helped write and approve our Vets Clause and has testified before the Ilinois House and Senate and spoke at the Governors signing.
